5 Healthy Tea Time Snacks You Can Enjoy With Your Evening Tea

You already know how bad fried foods are for your weight reduction and cholesterol levels. That doesn't mean you have to have a cranky evening tea time; here are 5 healthy tea time snack alternatives to consider.

It's around 4:30 p.m., you're hungry, but you've had your lunch two hours ago, and your supper is still four to five hours away; what should you do? To the rescue, a cup of tea and some nibbles! When we think of evening tea, we automatically think of samosas, kachoris, and pakoras. You already know how bad they are for your weight loss, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels. That doesn't mean you should have a cranky tea time in the evening. Remember that fasting will not help, and binge-eating afterwards will be far worse. Are you stuck for ideas? Perhaps some healthier snacks might be substituted for the fried and fatty nibbles. Dr. Anju Sood, a Bangalore-based nutritionist. 

"During tea time, one can easily ditch the regular fried snacks for healthy and equally delicious alternatives," she explains. "Make sure you choose snacks that are high in fibre, as this leads to slow liberation of sugar, which prevents abnormal sugar spikes and also curbs our cravings by keeping us satiated for long. Another thing to keep in mind is the protein quotient, as protein also digests slowly, it helps keep satiety levels high. Shilpa Arora, a health practitioner and macrobiotic nutritionist, recommends five nutritious teatime snacks that may also be eaten later in the evening: 

1. Pumpkins Seeds

Pumpkin seeds are high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and flavour, making them one of the healthiest snacks to have with your cup of chai in the evening. You may either roast or boil them. For a spicy snacking alternative, season with curry powder, cayenne pepper, or chipotle flakes, or add cinnamon, clove, or nutmeg to your seeds for a delicious treat.

2. Sprouts 

When it comes to healthy snacking alternatives, a bowl of fresh and colourful sprouts is a favorite. Soak chickpeas, moong dal, or other legumes in water and wait for them to slice open into nutritious sprouts to add a healthy twist to your dinners. Serve them alone or with freshly sliced vegetables such as cucumber and tomatoes, seasoned with salt and pepper for a spicy kick. 3. Peanuts

5. Apple Sticks 

Pick some apples that are firm. Remove the stem and skewer in craft sticks after carefully washing and drying them. Place them in the freezer while you make the caramel. Dip the apple into the warm caramel while holding the stick and carefully spin the apple to remove any extra caramel. Allow to cool on waxed paper before serving. These sweet and tasty apple sticks make a great teatime snack.
